How we collect and use personal data

Last updated: October 2026. This policy explains how Sobowale, Medidem & Bello (“SMB”, “we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data through this website, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

Who we are

Sobowale, Medidem & Bello is a commercial law firm at 12 Berkley Street, Onikan, Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website. You can reach us at emails@smblawpractice.com or on +234 201 8880181.

What we collect

  • Enquiry details. When you use our contact form we collect your name, email address, telephone number, enquiry type and the message you write.
  • Messages you send us. If you email or call us, we keep the details you give us.
  • Technical data. Our web server and hosting provider may record your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, for security and to keep the site working.

Please do not send confidential or privileged documents through the website form. We will tell you how to share those safely once we have spoken.

Why we use your data

  • To respond to your enquiry and, if you instruct us, to provide legal services. Our lawful basis is your consent, steps taken at your request before a contract, and our legitimate interests in running the firm.
  • To keep our website and systems secure.
  • To meet our legal and professional obligations.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the website and email (such as our hosting and email providers), professional advisers, and public authorities where the law requires it. Some providers may process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens we take steps to make sure your data stays protected, as the NDPA requires.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any resulting matter, and then for the period our professional and legal obligations require. We then delete or anonymise them.

Cookies

This website uses only the cookies needed for it to work. If we add analytics or marketing tools in future, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

Your rights

Under the NDPA you may ask us for access to your personal data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its use, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise a right, write to emails@smblawpractice.com. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. No website or email can be completely secure, so please take care over what you send.
